Redemption for Auguste Rodin! Dual Derby hero captures Irish Champion Stakes
The Aidan O’Brien-trained Auguste Rodin captured the €1.25 million Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes as he bounced right back to his best in the Leopardstown highlight.
The dual Derby hero blotted his copybook when trailing in last in the King George at Ascot, but was firmly back in business here as he recorded a fourth Group One triumph.
Ridden by Ryan Moore, the pair got the better of defending champion and stable companion Luxembourg to record a half-length success in the 10-furlong event.
The 11/4 favourite was also yet another winner for his late superstar sire Deep Impact.
Winning trainer Aidan O’Brien said: “I have to thank Michael (Tabor, joint-owner) for having the confidence in everybody to relax and calm down and come back (after Ascot). Ryan gave him an incredible ride.
“We’re so grateful to so many of the team that made it happen. He was always a brilliant horse, all the way along, from the first day he worked. He travels like a dream and has an awful lot of natural speed. He’s a little bit lazy when he gets there.
“A couple of times this year it just all went totally wrong. All the ducks went against him, you usually want them all to go with you but it all went against him.
“In Ascot all went completely wrong so Ryan took him out of the race, so he did no mental or physical damage to him. He came out of the race so well.
“He’s a dream horse really, he travels and quickens and he’s a little bit lazy when he gets there.
“We always talk to Michael, Derrick (Smith), John (Magnier) and George (Westerberg) after a week or 10 days, but I know the lads love the Breeders’ Cup and there is probably a good chance he’ll go there. That is very possible.”

Supplemented for the classic 20/1 easy money
Great ride by Ryan.
Unconvinced. He made it home, only just. Nashwa ridden much too far off the pace, would have won otherwise.
Auguste Rodin and Equinox. Sunday Silence still dominating the world of horse racing
A good horse doesn't need so many redemptions, that's inconsistent. I think it is time for him to retire and breed, as he might provide a way out for flooding Galileo/Frankel's bloodline.
A VERY UNUSUAL HORSE!!😂
Superb race. Dreadful commentary.
When you have the first and second racing in the first 3 throughtout, it shows how bad a ride Doyle and Stott gave their horses..you cannot give genuine Gp horses that much ground and expect to win. Moore kept it simple and reaped the reward.
August Rodin is a rogue . I still feel King of Steel is a better horse . Poorly ridden .
Well done Ryan more I like Hollie Doyle but what was she thinking so far off the pace she had to go wide gutted
Well there's no suprise. Kevin Stott has been sacked by Amo Racing for his ride on King of Steel. It underlines the fact this race was a benefit race for one horse, AR. The horse faced no competion from his own stablemates nor from the inept rides given to the overseas challenger. I give you this proverb "Without competion there can be no Sport". Coolmore are not intrested in sport they are in the business of breeding and they crapping themselves over the loss of Galileo and need an an A list replacement. AR is the only Deep Impact offspring to acheive 120+ OR rating I don't think AR will become An the A list stallion that they are looking for.
That commentator man, ruins races with that voice of his
Kevin Stott sacked after this ride.
Mmmmm…strange race.
The usual Coolmore wall of three horses effectively blocking/disrupting the competition until the final tight bend.
Auguste Rodin looks a pretty average horse on this result…in past years he would have been dubbed 'ungenuine' after Newmarket & Ascot no shows.
He's just got by Luxembourg who was thrashed by Hukum, Mostadaf & Westover.
Still, I'm sure Auguste Rodin will be duly made 'Horse of the Year', as always money talks.
Love the commentary. Some race callers are so dreary . Winner 🏆 going to the breeders cup then the sheds
Terrible ride by Jim Crowley. What a looser that geezer is. What did he expect, or did they just take a horse for a jog.
Is the commentator alive?
So bad for racing, AR was gifted this race. Luxembourg was not ridden to achieve the best possible placing. Hollie Doyle she should be embarrassed wiith the ride she gave Nashwa. Getting 9lbs age allowance borh Derby's 2023 in Britain are crap form.
Just what does JH spout as AR stops the clock?…think he ruptured himself🤣

I love Deep Impact, and I'm very happy that August Rodin is back again.Going to Breeders' Cup Turf is a lot of fun.
This may be his last run, I hope He can finish it safely without any breakdowns. I also want the Deep Impact lineage to spread and connect throughout the world.
